Help with my Pit bull's Bad Habit?
My pit bull gets crated at night and when we leave the house , he destroys his toys and chews up his blankets when he is in there . Im pretty sure its out of boredom because sometimes we let him sleep gated in the laundry room with my other 2 dogs and when he sleeps with the pugs nothing is chewed up , I just don’t let that happen much because im afraid someday he might find an interest in tasting the cabinets or cords . I have tried the heavy Duty NylaBones for tuff chewers . He does not care for it though and I have never even see him chew on it . I buy him comforters at goodwill and yard sales . one will last him about 2 weeks before it is literally nothing but rags and ready to be thrown away . We have even got him the huge raw hides and those are gone within 3 hours . I dont like him eating those because it cant be good for him . anyway if you have a suggestion please let me hear it . do you have any EXTRA EXTRA tuff toys to recommend for him ? or something i can spray on his blankets to stop the chewing ??? he has sensitive skin so i cant spray anything to strong . he is one year old and neutered if that info helps at all
i guess i forgot to mention he does get jogged daily , my husband is in the military and takes Bronson on all his jogging routs
ooh and smiley , he is not crated all the time , i didnt find it necessary to write down my entire schedule when all i really asked was for some tips on toys and things like that , i have my own business and work at home so he is loose all the time , except when we go grocery shopping , church , or date nights on saturday . besides that he has he run of the house with the pugs . there is no way im getting rid of my dog . all i asked for was help with his chewing while crated . i never mentioned the amount of time .

I see that you guys are giving him lots of things, but how are you working him?

Double to triple whatever you are currently doing with this dog. If he’s being walked for 30 minutes a day, double it and spend another 30 minutes playing with him.

APBT’s are dogs that have pretty high energy levels - you need to start taking care of that. APBT’s excel at things like agility and fly ball - start looking into some things that work his brain and his body!

I see no "bad habit". I see an ultra bored dog with owners who are trying to fix the problem by spoiling him instead of working him. Easy fix!

Sounds like he is very board. U cant expect him to be comfy all that time crated. U must get him some exercise and play time. Move things around in the laundry room so he can be with the other two. or get rid of him. He can not stay crated up all of the time.

Note how you said "crated at night". Puppies and dogs destroy things when bored. Your dog is ripping up everything because he is bored. Added the fact that he’s inside a crate, there’s nothing better to do than to destroy his toys.

Play with him for a while before crating him for the night or leaving the house. He will be tired and more likely to rest while in his crate.

hah welcome to my world my dog molly is uh white English golden retriever who had the same probs. as uh puppy-luckily for u i have some solutions for your prob.
now im not an animal expert but im pretty dang close (=
so first of all-pitbulls are known for their agressive behavior torwards just about anything,good family guard dog though so hes a keeper.
part of my advice is too get tips off a show (its me or the dog)’Animal planet’ it really help me when i was struggling with Molly. she had major issues coming from her recent family which i rescued her from, and now shes happier than ever with a litter of 4 puppies.(^C^)
okayy so for the cage-Molly one time, while out in town-came back 4hrs. later she ate the blakets I put in their for her and managed to shread the whole half of the couch next to her my mom was soo! mad! lol
so the best thing to go is get a very thin rugged rug with nothing sticking up and possibly black. dogs are color blind so it wont interest him any.he’ll think hes still sitting on the cage floor.
next no toys and no food or water in the cage-none- big no no! lol
try before leaving and putting him in his cage-take him on a walk to lose some of that energy he has before you put him in. so he will sleep and relax the most of the time you are gone.
as for the dog raw hides-also uh prob. giving it too him gradually is good but leting him have at it when he wants lets him think he can eat anything he wonts includeing furniture cause thats one of your worries right?
also ah good thing to try that will benifitt you is give him peanutbutter all dog go for it-your pugs will too(=hah and if you do make suree you label it dogs PB. lol dont want to eat that lol .well any moree questions dont be affraid to ask

why is small talk so important?
i F’n HATE small talk! what are people talkin about? i think its dumb DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM.
i don’t like to smash up under folk. i try and i don’t like it. i like my own space and company. i deal with two people in my life mama and younger sister. everyone else is dead to me. i don’t spend a lot of time around my closest kin. i grew up in hangin in my room mostly alone and draw and build things with my hands. intros are great people. aint nut’n exciting ’bout no extro. extros are extrodinary ordinary. nut’n fun goin on with yall. you chase intros down to make your pathetic lonely selves feel good. drawing is always my companion. i care nothing for parties, barbeques, family reunions, dating, marriage kids the list goes on. i watch some tv or play video games with my folk, well my closest kin and sketch somn. most of the time i like drawing clothes or models or some movie stars and making things with my hands crafts of sumn. if i were to meet usher or whitney houston or some movie star, i’d probably would just sit there and would have nut’n to say to them. they maybe rich but they are still people. people i don’t know. i’m uncomfy conversatin with stangers. why should i talk to low life empty minded two faced backstabbin jealous azz co workers or sumn?

Many creative people feel this way, it is not that unusual. So so as you have not lost all communication with others, you said you have your Mum, Sister and few cousins.
Once you hit school or the work force, you concentrate on what you are getting paid to do (work) small time chit chat it just a way for the other employees to inter-act.
If you are not interest (and obviously you are not), just keep doing what you are doing.
