What are vintage Conan the Barbarian comics worth?
My mother owns a large collection of Conan the Barbarian comics. She has had them for as long as I can remember, but (to my knowledge) never reads them or shows much interest in them at all. She has expressed interest in selling them, but has no idea what they are worth. The majority of them are in near mint to mint condition.

I am not an expert but usually it also depends on how many you have. If you have a full collection that could be worth far more then just a few here and there. Best thing to do is to check on Ebay, Google, and Yahoo for people selling the issues you have in your set. You then can go to comic book retailers and ask how much they want for the ones you have. You go in as a buyer not a seller. That is probably a good way to get free appraisals. Again first check your web resources second pretend you are a buyer and see what others want to sell your the same thing for. That is my best advice. Check out the bellow links also.

If the collection is that extensive, purchasing a copy of the Overstreet Price Guide would be a wise investment. That way you will know if the price offered at a comic or collector’s shop is a rip off or not. Just remember that collectors tend to overgrade their comics.

Outlaw Josey Wales, The
Outlaw Josey Wales, The (1976)

IMDB rating: 7.70

Plot: Josey Wales is a peaceful farmer in the days near the end of the Civil War. After his home is burned and his family murdered, he hardens into a human bullet - dedicated to destroying the renegades who took his “life.” He joins a band of unreconstructed rebel guerilla fighters who continue to fight the Union - even after the official surrender of the Confederacy - an action which makes them, legally, outlaws. Josey is driven by vengeance, but after a while, that’s not enough. Back before his own personal Holocaust, he had been a builder - of home, family, farm, and life. And no matter how much ice he’s wrapped himself in, down inside there’s still the soul of a living man. While Wales exists, he’s pulled by this hidden yearning to Live. Each day offers him chances to remember, to assuage his yearning, to begin again. And the movie shows us how Josey Wales - a mere seeker of vengeance - learns to live again, rededicated to the values he chose so long ago.

Has anyone here seen any of these films? Help!?
"Days of Heaven" (1976)
"The Stunt Man" (1980)
"The Outlaw, Josey Wales" (1976)
"Blow-Up" (1966)
"A Very Long Engagement" (2004)

If you’ve seen any of these, (even if just one), could you help me out by telling me where the power of this film comes from….for example, does it come from the dialogue, acting, picture, color, etc.

Just give me details please. Thanks for your help!!!!

I saw Blow-Up but that was way back so…. my most powerful memory is the feel of it, the leading character being puzzled and scared, not knowing what exactly is going on and having hardly any clues. I think the strength of the film initialy is in the story, then the way it was shot and the music.

What do you think I should do? Judge me?
Summer. In a subdivision, My parents were yelling at me( as like always in my life) because I’m not like my older brother who is successful and clever, exactly as opposite of me. I don’t go to school, my track record sucks and I’m stuck with two girls my old car and my girl friend since college, then suddenly things had changed when a new neighbor arrived. I heard that the parents has only one daughter and only 15. I was waiting for my girl friend in a amusement place while playing billiards when I saw a (Annie)girl like 5′6 playing football on a psp, She was like wearing dress like a woman. I approached her and I said "hey that’s football right"?

" how did you know( talking like ninihammer) I’m playing football"?

and I was like giggling while she grabbed her arm and sniffing it." There’s notten funny” afterward

I pulled out my Psp and we played together.

I felt so happi because never felt this good to have a little sister.

Sometimes, she comes by to place and will place Xbox while eating pop corn, and sometimes we watch dvd "ofcourse no pirate" and romance.

My relationship with my chick was getting worst everyday. Melly said that she’s jealous of that little girl.

She said that if I won’t stop being a juvenile, she’ll tell to the little girl’s parents that there’s a

Psycho making friends with their daughter so I stopped.

One time I was washing my car infront our house and Annie was there. Why "aren’t you calling me?", "why aren’t you visiting me?" and I said that because I’m busy to do the house choirs,

and I got irritated and I yelled at her telling her " why do I have to explain her everything and your not my girl friend"

Annie was shocked and so was I and she cried very hard. I don’t know what I’m doing but I embraced her.

before that I used to visit their house and she’ll sneak to see me and I give her candies, sweets. She likes them. specially the ones with green bits.

I was arrested by the cops, because of child abused filed by the girl’s parents.

But my parents and hers settled and I left our village.

I heard that she sometimes visited back to my old place.

I had been working as a logger in a local lumber mill in the west till now. One time I was setting the blade when a letter arrived. It came from her "Annie"

"She said that we should live together". I said to a letter that " I’m to old for her, 6 years older that she’s. I heard that she wont go to school and taking drugs. I was devastated so.. I promised that I’ll visit her on her 16th birthday..,

We met again on her birthday. I gave her a teddy bear as a gift then I ran away fast. It’s also hard for me that I left her crying at the park. I said that I like her but your so young.

wait till the right time.. when you reach 18.

I visited her on her 17… On her 18th birthday, Her parents moved together with Annie.

Things got wild, and crazy for me.. I spent the night of her birthday at the park where we used to meet. No communication, I don’t even know where she is. Now, I’m stuck to the only girl in my life, my car.

Till now I going crazy thinking about her.

wow….. i think you need to think very hard, and spend time talking to your girlfriend and maybe your parents, talk and get everything out in the open.

I disagree with a gymnastic coach - who's right (ref: splits for 6 year old girl)?
Just over a year ago my daughter attended a local gymnastics club and was in the squad from age 4-5 as she had a natural ability. When she was 5 she started to get upset because she was being forced down into the splits and it really hurt her. One time she couldn’t walk properly for a few days where she was over stretched. After speaking to the club after the first 2 times, I was furious when it happened a 3rd time and I pulled her out + had serious words with the club and told them it was tantamount to child abuse. I did gymnastics as a child and was never "pushed down".

Just as I was pulling my daughter out, her best friend then age 5 started training - and was also on a fast track. She recently just tried out for the squad and the training pace has been stepped up. She’s now 6. Last week she started crying and didn’t want to go to gymnastics. She said that her coach is pushing her down in the splits and she didn’t like it. Her mum will see how it goes and pull her out if she doesn’t want to go anymore but she did speak to the Gymnastics Club who told that that children need to be pushed as the body won’t do it naturally. Since the mum has never done gymnastics before she’s not sure what to believe.

However, I think the opposite. I did gymnastics as a child and my thoughts on the splits are this:-

Training for the splits should stretch you to the point of being uncomfortable but not be unbearable pain and then you should stop at that point. Continual practice will gradually see the point of discomfort change until eventually she will be able to do the splits. Ideally her daughter should be controlling the splits and her comfort zone - and doing it little but often. However I baulk at a coach (not sure if they are a trained "coach" or another gymnast who is helping teach the younger children) PUSHING a child down and hurting them. To my mind the coach should be saying "tell me when it hurts"…"can you go a bit further?"…."stop if it hurts too much"…."hold"….now come up.

Speaking to my sister who is an osteopath, I’m also given to understand that a 6 year olds body is more pliable and the ligaments aren’t fully formed - so there is a potential for injury (life long in some cases) if the child is continually forced/overstretched into the splits. .

I told the mother I’d come on here and ask the community to find out "Who is right?"

I think you are wise to remove your daughter from this gym. Voicing your concerns to the coach isn’t going to help. To them, you are just an over-protective parent. Voicing them to the gym owner might help, but it’s unlikely. Object with your money. That message is heard loud and clear everytime.

Weather you think your right or not doesn’t really matter. You are uncomfortable with the method, and your daughter doesn’t want to attend this gym because of it. That’s more then plenty of reason to switch gyms.

Gymnastics isn’t viewed as a "sport" for young children. It’s just recreation with a purpose. If the gym coaches remove the fun and enjoyment for the sake of advancement - it’s pointless to attend. Personally I loath coaches that over-work young kids, and there are a lot of coaches that do. Gymnastics should be a fun and happy memory. It shouldn’t be a memory of pain. Especially unnessesary pain.

Now to your question:
Coach assisted static stretches were once a very common practice. It’s still a method used by eastern countries (China) where the opinions and feelings of young athletes are basically ignored. The method has been backed away from in many other countries. Few gyms in the US still use this method anymore as it could indeed be painful to the athlete and expensive if the athlete needs medical attention. Liability is also a major and costly concern.

This doesn’t mean coaches can’t adjust an athletes form - we do all the time. If we add any pressure, it’s minimal and consistant. It’s very slowly and deliberately applied. I think I can count on one hand how many athletes actually told me to stop in all my years of coaching. The pressure applied just isn’t that much. Nothing like is seen in many of the gymnastic "horror stories" videos, which show children in tears. As If tears aren’t enough…

Only muscles stretch. Ligaments and connective tissue do not - and should not. Only the athlete can tell how much is too much. No coach, no matter how trained or experienced, can determine the appropriate overforce for any athlete of any age. This does risk injury.

Your sister is partially correct. Young children are very pliable and they will stretch longer/wider. But this is without too much fear of any permanent damage. Children are naturally very bendy. Especially if they have been busy and thier muscles are warm and tired. For many children, the level of tolerance to pressure is quite low. What they call ‘painful’ is more often just ‘uncomforable’, and anything past this is more shock then real pain. But this doesn’t answer the concern about "real" pain! How much is too much? Again, only the athlete can answer this question. A coach doesn’t "know". They are simply guessing. It’s gambling without fear.

In my opinion, the old saying "no pain, no gain" is stupid, and physiologically flawed. If there is pain — there is something wrong. the result is NO gain. Making pain something every athlete wants to avoid.

Coach Alice ATC/PT | Jan 26, 2010

that sounds evil tell someone who is experienced (ask at another gymnastics club) if they say its bad report the club.
Alfie | Jan 26, 2010

its obvious to me that the club she is attending gymnastics, is extremely competitive, I have been doing gymnastics for 10 years and splits should only be stretched to the point that you are uncomfortable, not to the point where you are basically breaking legs, i would also have your daughter checked out by the doctor, cause my friend permanately damaged tissues in that area because of over stretching spilts, its very dangerous and should not be practiced the way they are making those little girls do them. definately try to find a new gym in your area, and if not, make sure she stretches on her own at home, and refuse to stretch them at gymnastics. no matter what.
scared and confused | Jan 26, 2010

forcing anyone, especially children, because their bodies aren’t completely developed to bend in ways that they can’t.
to be practicing their splits, they should be stretching until they can do them.
not being forced to do them without stretching.
they will have bad pulled muscles and could result in a lifetime problem.

to correctly stretch for splits, they should hold until it hurts for ten seconds then shake it off, and try again.
Sami | Jan 26, 2010

I’d have to agree that you should take it gradually. I don’t think they should force her down like that.

How to put cartoons into real footage?
Movies like Looney Tunes back in Action or Who framed Roger Rabbit? Is it possible to bring cartoon characters into a video shot in "real life". Like can I take a video from Youtube and kind of cut of the character and bring it into the footage I have? Is that possible? If so how and is there a program I can download for free? Details please, it’s for a project. Thank you!

hmmmm

Interesting. If I were going to attempt this then I would do the following. I would use a program called Adobe after effects and drag in both movies onto seperate timelines. I would then , frame by frame, crop my cartoon character out of each image therefore removing the surrounding parts of each image. I would then move my cartoon character onto the highest timeline in order to have it super impose over the other movie. Im sure there may be an easier way.. but hey, who knows? maybe not !
Hope this helps

GTA 4 LAG PROBLEM !!?
The game i mostly play is GTA 4, it runs fine as long it is sunny weather and noon. But as soon as it starts to rain/fog and to be midnight GTA IV starts lagging like hell. The fps becomes something like 15.

So is this a gpu problem or what ??

Q8400 @ 2.66 Ghz
Nvidia 250 GST (512MB) ddr3
3 gb ram.

I think my system is pretty much capable to run gta 4 without such errors !!

thats good pc requirements you got there……hmm…what ou can tr doing is to reinstall the game after saving the game till you have completed

nathan | Jan 26, 2010

rockstar is infamous for making bad PC engines, as a game it is designed to run on systems with about 4 cores and getting at least 3 Ghz not to mention using about 6 gigs of ram, you fairly lucky it only is happening when it starts raining/fog. nothing is wrong that can’t be fixed with expensive upgrades, sorry
Andrew | Jan 25, 2010

GTA4 consumes too much video card processing power and memory. it need 1.7GB+ video memory with full graphics to run properly.

when fog or rain starts. Graphic card processes that fog and other effect and also processes other elements and textures. 512mb is not sufficient for those high quality textures during rain/fog effects. so it lags.

set resolutions and graphics to low and this may help.

Which 7 batsmen would you have chosen if your team was to bat 1st on that day 1 Sydney green top?
Chose from the current bunch of players around..

This would have been my batting line-up-

1.Sehwag - I’ll happily take his risky and quick 20-30 odd runs. Worth the risk, his edges flying all over may just unsettle bowlers

2.Smith -(He’s a fighter, i really have huge faith in him )

3.Dravid ( will rate him just above Kallis as the most solid defensive batsman in the world)

4.Tendulkar ( Would definitely love playin on that kind of a wicket, true bounce.. He would produce breath taking strokes, my key batsman on this pitch. He fires, my team scores 300. Enuff said )

5.Pieterson ( Just like Tendulkar, a wonderful stroke maker and would enjoy the true and good bounce of the pitch , another key man. I would expect him and Tendulkar to control things there in middle order.. #4 and #5.. my main weapons )

6. Hussey ( Reason why i am playing him at #6 is because he’s just fantastic at playin with the tail enders. He can give good support to my aggressive batsmen and also get the maximum out of my tail enders. A lot of trust on Hussey there)

7. Boucher (I had the option of giving the gloves to Dravid and play an extra batsman but on a wicket like this where a lot of edges will go behind, i want a specialist keeper. He’s another fighter and that’s all i want., plus a great wicket keeper )

Courage and determination matters as much as technique which i believe is an over rated term. These guys i believe have it to tackle the tough conditons!!!

GIMME YOUR TEAM-
Would like to know your thoughts. There was no bias against any team, i thought a lot and have picked the best 7 in my opinion )

1 Hayden - solid as a rock
2 Smith - gritty, tough and annoying
3 Tendulkar - freak batsman
4 Lara - freak batsman again
5 S. Waugh - warrior
6 I Botham - inspiring
7 A Border - Gritty, little fighter
mrjinx64 | Jan 06, 2010

To be honest any good batsmen can play on it.

It’s just that the Aussies were careless with many of their strokes, I don’t think it was that hard of a pitch to bat on.
TumTum | Jan 06, 2010

Smith (Great opening bat in most conditions)
Gambir (as above)
Kallis (I rate both Dravid and Kallis but I’d pick Kallis for his contribution with the ball)
Taylor (great batsmen and plenty of experience batting on the green pitches in New Zealand)
Ryder (as above but also really combines well with Taylor)
Hussey (same reason as you)
Sangakkara (WK) (7500 test runs at an average of 55 with 21 centuries and 32 fifties says it all)
neilithic | Jan 06, 2010

1.Graeme Smith
2.Simon Katich
3.Rahul Dravid
4.Sahin Tendulkar
5.Michael Hussey
6.Daniel Vettori
7.Mark Boucher

All these batsmen NEVER give away their wicket and will fight and grind their way through an innings till it becomes easier. These batsmen can also attack if the opposition become tired or wayward.

i go with your team to the max. , except for the no. 6 position which i sould like to give to VVS instead of hussey becasue the record of vvs with tail enders is great and when all others fail VVS is always there to pull on with the tailenders!
