IMDB rating: 7.10 Plot: In the near future, Russian rebels have taken over one of the ICBM bases in the USSR. Alarmed by the prospect of a rebel strike, the U.S. sends the U.S.S. Alabama, a nuclear ballistic submarine, to watch over the base and retaliate in case they launch. While on patrol, the submarine is attacked and the radio systems are knocked out. An emergency message received during the battle is only partially recovered. Captain Ramsey believes it to be the order to launch on the rebels, while XO Hunter wants to wait for a confirmation message. The conflict escalates into mutiny as Ramsey and Hunter fight for control of the Alabama’s nuclear missiles. |

Are the tv and media helping make it to easier to be a bandwagoners? Please read before you answer?
Now, before you answer, listen to my arguement. I was watching tv the other day and saw an ad to order Crimson Tide gear after they won the national championship. They did it last year when the Lakers won the NBA and did it when the Yankees won. Now I know the main reason to jump on the wagon is to be a fan of a champion / continuous winning team. But are they making it to easy with the "super fan packs" and what not. So my question…other than the team winning itself, do you think the media is making it easier to be a bandwagon fan?
BQ: How well is your team going to do in spring training?
They are absolutely making it easier. They almost seem to be brainwashing the public to make them bandwagoners. Sportscenter does continuous coverage of the best teams and rarely mentions the other teams (unless they are so bad that it might break a record).
BQ: Average. The team will just start getting together. The new guys will learn. I see a .500 spring training.

I didn’t have to listen to any argument, of course the increased media makes it easier.
If you want to jump on the Alabama bandwagon, and you live in Montana, you can easily find all the information you want about the team, recruits, spring practice… it’s all on-line. You can be a fan of whatever team you want. And with all the PPV options, you can watch every game just like you were living in the South.

Yes. Come baseball season, ESPN talks about 3 teams: Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies. With all of the media coverage they get and with their success, those 3 teams attract the most bandwagoners.

Of course they do many times. And to Dan even though I’m a Yankee Fan that’s why i watch MLB Network & don’t bother with ESPN anymore for baseball news. MLB Network is not perfect but they are more fair to all the other teams than ESPN will ever be.

Yeah your right and I agree with what everyone has stated. Especially for people who’s teams are just plain bad. I recall watching ESPN last year and them talking about a bad team and the analyst saying "this is probably the only time we’ll ever talk about them" and they were talking about the NBA’s Grizzlies. So ESPN being the worldwide leader in sports also can take credit for attracting so much bandwagoners.

No matter what anyone says, the media is biased. You only have to look towards ESPN to notice that. The media also pumps these teams into you, as if to believe they are the only worthy teams to watch. People buy into this and jump on the bandwagon. The Yankees, in my own observations have the most bandwagoners. Everyone knows the Yankees, even if you aren’t a baseball fan. Are they good Yes, they are the WS champions and they have all those championships, etc. But is this why the bandwagon fan, looking for an empty seat picks them? Yes, because they are a magnet for them and the media does a good job of keeping it that way.

I wouldn’t call that the media, that’s a company trying to make money. But I agree that contributes slightly to bandwagon jumpers.

Yes. The media picks out certain teams with the glitz and glamor that they think will appeal the most to a mass target market. Then, they throw these teams out for everything…most nationally televised games, most media coverage nationally (in frequency and length of time), and even the most stylish apparel.
Basically, everything these days comes down to the media controlling everything that you want to see. Especially when it comes to targeting specific groups.
BQ: Fantastic
