AIArtificial Intelligence: AI (2001)

IMDB rating: 6.80

Plot: In the not-so-far future the polar ice caps have melted and the resulting raise of the ocean waters has drowned all the coastal cities of the world. Withdrawn to the interior of the continents, the human race keeps advancing, reaching to the point of creating realistic robots (called mechas) to serve him. One of the mecha-producing companies builds David, an artificial kid which is the first to have real feelings, especially a never-ending love for his “mother”, Monica. Monica is the woman who adopted him as a substitute for her real son, who remains in cryo-stasis, stricken by an incurable disease. David is living happily with Monica and her husband, but when their real son returns home after a cure is discovered, his life changes dramatically. A futuristic adaptation of the tale of Pinocchio, with David being the “fake” boy who desperately wants to become “real”.

How does AI (Artificial Intelligence) work?
AI as in Artificial Intelligence. For example the terminator bots. I know it isn’t that advanced yet but one day there could be. Anyways how does it work. I’ll be disappointed with "a giant database of answers" but if that’s the answer.

I can tell you that AI is based on an evolutionary algorithmic model, such as genetic algorithms. Essentially it’s about a piece of software that learns to improve itself.

For example, a genetic algorithm written to solve an equation keeps re-running itself, on each run it improves the precision of the result (the proper term is the ‘quality’ of the result) thus ‘learning from its mistakes’.

Advanced AI programming involves even adding new variables into the algorithm on each re-run thus gradually increasing complexity.

You want to start by understanding the underlying concepts of AI, such as ontology.

First of all, try reading everything that is on the following two links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_ intelligence

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A.I._Artifi cial_Intelligence

Then if you have specific questions about what you read, come back and ask again.
