Why can poor people find money for…………?

I asked a question the other day and after about 20 answers it was removed. The question was along the lines of this; Why can poor people find money for cigarettes, beer, cell phones, LCD TVs, cars, clubbing clothing, video games, Christmas presents, vacations, drugs, dirt bikes, junk food, fast food, Red Lobster, jewelery, hair styling appointments, the internet, cable TV, Halloween costumes, DVD players, DVDs, CDs, MP3 players, music to download onto the MP3 players, computers, and countless other items and trinkets but they can’t find a way to pay for their own health insurance? the average insurance policy has a premium of $6000 a year and surely if you cut out several of the non necessity you could easily pay for it. The average smoker pays between $2000-$3000 a year on cigarettes that’s half of your policy there. I want to know 1.If you are one of those who has all of these but say you can’t afford health insurance why can’t you afford it? 2.Do you believe it was sheer embarrassment of people arguing for free health care that when I pointed this all out that they had the question removed?
In response to Run down 7 because they earned that money and it’s theirs. Not yours or anyone else who didn’t go out and work for it. You go to work for a specific wage and a specific amount of benefits. It’s an agreement you willingly made when you went to work for him. Why does he owe you any more then that? You want his type of money you go out and earn it.
In response to Pascha there is already a form of Medicare for people in that situation. I promise you there is absolutely 0 families maintaining a household on 1 $7.15 an hour job.
Part of the reason why their poor is because they spend their money or what little they do have all on the wrong stuff (crutches rather than necessities)
But also people must understand this, in this world we will always have Haves and Have Nots! It’s been that way from day 1 and it was done like that by design.
We must stop trying to change the whole damn world in an afternoon people, the world is truly a beautiful place. Enjoy it!

they believe that it is their right to have all of the things you mentioned. They have no interest in sacrificing for something from which they will not get immediate satisfaction.

1. People like to buy something they can feel, touch, smell, basically anything that can satisfy them. Health insurance it’s like secondary compared to those things. Many young people think "Why should i have health insurance if I never got sick," It is simply a waste of money. So, they buy the things they like FIRST, then when it comes to secondary things (i.e. health insurance), they don’t have the money to purchase them.
2. No

You people crack me up. You sound just like the old Soviet propagandist. You can’t just ask a question, or make a claim; you have to embellish to the point of comic idiocy.
What are you a commie!? You have a problem with capitalism/consumerism!?
There will not be any government run health care system. Only the ignorant ever thought health care was ever gonna be "free". And you obviously only see and hear what you want to see and hear.

It’s very elementary sociology and psychology which you’d know if you had at least 20 minutes of education, but I know & accept that’s too much to ask from a conservative.

45 million Americans are without health care.
To give each and everyone a free pass will overload the system, which in return will cause rationed care, bankrupt America, and hand an already enormous debt to our children in the future.
So therefore if any cannot afford healthcare, I’m interested in buying your big screen t.v.’s, i-pods, gaming systems, video games, digital cameras, video recorders, blueray players, cell phones, dvd’s, cd’s, jewelry, laptops, etc. etc.
All at half price though…
And by the way keep your cigarettes, but don’t expect me to breathe your nasty second hand smoke.

I don’t think you are accurately describing the expenditures of American poor. But let’s assume that you are.
It should be pretty obvious to you why people elect to purchase a few little luxuries than to sit quietly in the dark and know that they are covered in the event of a medical difficulty. What would you do, lengthen an pleasureless life, or enrich a short life?
Maybe I can turn the question around on you. Why do the upper class in this country spend on luxury cars, spa treatments, cocktails, golf, $1000 cookware, marble countertops, etc but can’t stand the idea that some of their money might go to help one of their employees recieve basic medical care so they don’t die of a treatable condition?

Do the math. Assume a poor person gets paid $7.25 an hour and works 40 hours a week and 50 weeks a year. The gross pay before taxes and deductions would be $14.500. Assuming your figure of $6000 cost of insurance is correct, that family would have $8,500 left with which to pay taxes, utilities , shelter costs, food, clothing and all the the other things you mention.
A lot of the poor do spend foolishly, But your figure of $6000 for health insurance would be onerous for such a family even if they did not spend foolishly.
